Mirror Lake was once an actual lake and used for many years as a source of ice for the local hotels in the winter. The park service decided it needed to remove sediment. Unfortunately, they ended up turning it into a swamp infested with mosquitos. We had to turn around because they were so bad.
This was a startling site. A cairn repository. Hundreds of them.
One can only imagine how this image would look if the lake could be returned to its former glory.
The trail used to go around the lake for a 3.5 mile loop. Now the back side is closed because of a rock slide.
