Maine Hiking Trip
Day 3 Hikes
Great Head - Thunder Hole - Gorham Mtn

Along Great Head

First of several views of the beach at Great Head.

Great place to catch some rays; but I wouldn't recommend swimming considering the water is about 50 degrees.

Restrooms...Thunder Hole...get it?

View of Thunder Hole. Not much thunder at low tide.

Plaque honoring Waldron Bates (circa 1908) who created the Gorham Mtn trail.

Ancient sea cave about 400 feet above sea level.

The intrepid hikers in the sea cave.

The name of this mountain escapes us. However, the side represented requires one to use about 240 rungs to get to the top. Very steep and not for the faint of heart. Click on the image to get a view of the people scrambling to the top.
